Short version: we don't collect anything personal by default. If you say yes, we use Google Analytics to see which articles people read. That's it. No ads, no newsletter, no accounts for readers.
What we collect
- By default: nothing personal. You can read every page without accepting anything.
- Google Analytics 4, only after you click Accept. It tells us things like which pages were viewed, roughly where visitors come from (country or city), which site or link sent them, and what kind of device and browser they use. Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store IP addresses. We run it with advertising features off and Google signals off, so nothing is used for ads, remarketing or cross-device profiles.
- If you click Decline, Google Analytics is never loaded and no request goes to Google.
Cookies and local storage
| Name | Set by | What it's for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
ts_consent |
us | remembers whether you clicked Accept or Decline (we also keep the same choice in your browser's local storage as ts-consent) |
6 months |
_ga |
Google Analytics, only after Accept | tells visits from the same browser apart, with a random ID | 2 years, renewed on each visit |
_ga_YQD6MRMQ5Y |
Google Analytics, only after Accept | keeps track of the current visit (session) | 2 years, renewed on each visit |
If you switch between dark and light mode, your browser remembers that in local storage (theme). It never leaves your device.
Hosting: Cloudflare
The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser details and the pages you request, so it can deliver the site and protect it from attacks and abuse. It keeps standard technical logs for that. Cloudflare may also set its own strictly necessary security cookies (for example cf_clearance). These are used for security only, not for analytics or ads.
Changing your mind
Click Cookie settings at the bottom of any page and pick Accept or Decline again. If you decline after accepting, we stop Google Analytics and delete the _ga cookies from your browser. Clearing your cookies and site data also resets your choice, and the banner will ask again.
Where the data goes
If you accept, analytics data goes to Google and is processed under Google's terms and privacy policy. Google may process it outside the EU, for example in the United States, under the safeguards it uses for international transfers. Google keeps Google Analytics data for a limited retention period, after which it is deleted.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything processed before you did. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
The easiest way to opt out is to click Decline (or change it under Cookie settings). You can also block cookies in your browser settings or use Google's opt-out browser add-on. We can't link analytics data to you by name, because we never collect your name, email or any account details.
